Attention Minnesota High School and Little Britches Members The Minnesota Rodeo Association is now offering full memberships for a fee of $10 to any person who holds a current Minnesota High School Rodeo or Little Britches membership card. Members must mail in a current 2008 application signed and notorized (available online) and proof of membership to the Minnesota High School or Little Britches Association. Members will be entitled to full membership status of the MRA and will accrue points towards the year-end finals. To be eligible for Rookie status the member must pay the full $100 membership fee.
Let your voice be heard and join is for our next meeting to be held on May 20th at 7:30 pm at Godfather’s Pizza in St. Cloud, MN.
NEW ADDITIONS FOR THE YEAR 2008 New for 2008 is the Men and Women’s Rookie of the Year award. To be eligible for the Rookie of the Year it must be the contestants’ first year buying card AND contestants must compete in 3 first sanctioned MRA rodeos. Contestants cannot hold a PRCA card to be eligible for Rookie of the Year. Any high school member must pay the full $100 membership fee to be eligible for the Rookie of the Year award, unless they were awarded a state champion membership.
The Minnesota Rodeo Association would like to introduce our new Hall of Fame. The MRA Hall of Fame will recognize persons who have been instrumental in the success of the Minnesota Rodeo Association. If any MRA member has an idea of someone that you think should be inducted into the MRA Hall of Fame for any reason, pleas contact the MRA office with who you would like to nominate and why, or fill out the online nomination form and send to the MRA office. The final date to turn in nominations to the MRA office is June 1st.
Rule Changes for 2008 Motion passed:: Motion made by Dan McCabe seconded by Tim Barg. If one partner in the team roping does not show, contestant can choose a partner from a team that is only entered once or any contestant that is already entered in another event in that rodeo. No contestant may go more times then allowed to make up the team. The rodeo secretary must be notified before the performance begins. After one man is declared not there and another partner is substituted, you cannot change back to the original partner. The partner that does not show will be fined equal to the amount of the entry fee plus $25 (as stated by the MRA TO rule). The team will draw stock in the original position.

Motion passed:: Motion made by Terry Pickar seconded by Scott Berends Rule book page 39 #8.If a qualified ride is made by a contestant and the animal is scored by both judges at 16 or under, falls on side or stops, then contestant will have the option of a re-ride. Judges will notify announcer if a re-ride is to be given. (changed 12 to 16)
Motion passed: Motion made by Terry Pickar seconded by Scott Berends MRA Rulebook page 39 #8. If a qualified ride is made by a contestant and the animal is scored by both judges at 16 or under, falls on side, belly, rear-end drops to ground or stops, then contestant will have the option of a re-ride. Judges will notify announcer if a re-ride is to be given. (Addition of: falls on side, belly, rear end drops to ground)
Motion passed: Motion made by Vern Borntrager seconded by Levi Berends Rulebook page 43 #1. Written: Bull must be ridden 8 seconds. Time starts when the bull’s front feet touch the ground the first time out of the chute. Changed to: Bull must be ridden 8 seconds. Time starts when any part of the bull breaks the plane of the gate.
Motion passed: Motion made by Dan Bergerson, seconded by Christine Nevela. Addition to page 9 under membership requirements: MRA rulebook to read: A current member in good standing of the MN High School Rodeo association and Little Britches Association will receive full member status for a fee of ten dollars upon receipt of a stamped notarized MRA release of liability and copy of membership status to MNHSRA or Little Britches.
Reminder to contestants it is a common curtsey to have entries paid well in advance of the rodeo starting. As stated in rulebook contestant will be disqualified if fees are not paid before competing.
Topics of Discussion at the April meeting: Discussion was held on the Finals and it was decided in order to accommodate time restraints and to put on the best show possible for the spectators that this year’s finals will include a slack and a performance both Friday and Saturday. All rough stock competitors will compete in the rodeo performance. For the timed event contestants, Friday night’s performance will be the top 8 contestants in the point’s standings, with the remaining 7 contestants competing in a slack earlier on in the day. For Saturday night’s performance the top 4 contestants in the standings and the top 4 contestants in the average will be competing. If there are contestants that are in the top 4 in the points standings and average then it will continue on to the next contestants in the point standings until the performance consists of 8 contestants. The remainder of the contestants will compete in a slack earlier in the day. Times yet to be determined.

All events must have their sponsorship money in by September 1st or their events awards will not be issued. Sponsorship forms are available online for you to use when talking with sponsors. It is the responsibility of all the event contestants to help in getting the sponsorship money for your event.
The following new stock contractor requirement rule will be voted on at the general membership meeting at the finals:
1. A new rodeo stock contractor making application for approval by the MRA must pay annual dues of $35.00.
A. Submit a detailed resume giving company's complete rodeo history, production experience, number of stock owned, rodeos under contract and possible new MRA rodeos.
B. Submit a list of all his rodeos held the previous year.
2. All new stock contractors will be permit stock contractors and will not be allowed to bid MRA rodeos until f full approval is granted. Final approval of all new stock contractor will be made during the annual meeting by a majority vote of the existing stock contractors and MRA board.
3. The MRA Board will review each approved stock contractor annually to see that their stock and production meets professional standards and make recommendations to the Board of Governors in regard to stock contractor/producer approval status. All new stock contractors must sanction a minimum of 4 rodeos 1 being MRA first sanctioned and must maintain this number to continue approval status.
4. The stock contractor will be certain that all contract personnel (Judges, secretary, timers, pickupmen, etc) working their rodeos are members in good standing, have met all necessary approval standards and is a current member of the MRA.
5. All MRA stock contractors must have at least 4 approved MRA sanctioned rodeos at least 1 MRA first approved with all sanction fees paid up to date, for their stock to be eligible for the MRA finals.
(Rule Page 14 3A reads: All stock contractors and rodeo committees will receive an associate membership free upon approval of the rodeo. (We would omit “stock contactors” from the wording of this rule)

Got News? Let us know- weddings, engagements, births announcements your friends from the MRA would love to hear from you. HEADS UP! The MRA Fine List goes to the website. MRA Fine list is public. The Board has cracked down on those competing even though being on the fine list. Contestants on the suspension list will not receive points at rodeos competed in while on the fine list if fine is not paid within 14 days notice. A certified letter of suspension will be sent to all active/competing members on the fine list to confirm the removal of points. If fine is not paid within 14 days of acceptance of said letter all points during the 2008 season will be forfeited. The rulebook is to be enforced as written. Turnouts are the primary reason contestants are listed, be sure to follow up with your secretaries when you missed a rodeo and keep your name off the list. One way to keep your name off the list is paying entries in advance of a turn out. Send money with a friend, send the entries to the MRA office before or directly after the rodeo is the best way to stay off the list. All fines must be cleared before entry to your next rodeo.
All fines with the MRA will be waived if a member on the fine list purchases their card before June 1st. Postmark and send in memberships by this date and clear your MRA suspension now! Listed below are all the fines that are owed to the MRA office. You may owe another association and must still pay those fines before you may be able to compete and receive points.
